Happy Holidays

Winter is coming.

Sorry, I couldn’t resist. I have been dying to use that line. Seriously, though it is almost time to drag out the Christmas decorations and awkwardly sip eggnog at a holiday party while pretending its good, just to appear festive.

Every year Coastal Orthodontics teams up with C.A.P.A and hosts an Angel Tree. So please stop by and grab an ornament so you can give a gift to someone less fortunate. The last day to give is December 7th. Now is the time for giving thanks and celebrating the holidays. Don’t count calories! Just enjoy all the yummy, festive foods and being with family.

Coastal Orthodontics wants to remind patients of what NOT to do over the holiday season.

1. We know that turkey legs are the best part of the turkey, but do not bite into them if you have braces. Just cut the meat off and enjoy.  It may not be pilgrim style but at least you won’t brake a bracket.

2. There are lots of sticky and chewy candies this time of year so be careful what you chose. Chocolate is always a good idea!

3. Reindeer Poop, Elf Poop and Snowman Poop ..while all of these treats sound delicious (or not at all), most of them contain nuts. Please be careful while nibbling on any type of poop this holiday season because if you brake a bracket it could be YOU in deep Reindeer poop with Dr. Scott. Poop.

Braces Friendly Recipe for Reindeer Poop (NOT NUTS)

INGREDIENTS

2 cups sugar 1 stick of butter 1/2 cup milk 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 3 cups of oatmeal (not instant) 1 Tbsp. vanilla extract 1 roll of waxed paper

DIRECTIONS

Blend the sugar, butter, milk and cocoa powder in a large pot over medium heat. Increase the heat and boil for 3 minutes stirring constantly. Remove from the heat, add the oatmeal and vanilla and stir until mixed. Drop the mixture by the spoonfuls onto a piece of waxed paper and let cool until hardened.
